Meet the Alumni: Kristin Gant
Program/Year
of graduation: B.H.S. 2004, M.P.H. 2006
What I'm doing now: I have a wonderful job developing and implementing health promotion programs, providing training to other health workers, helping local counties with community development, assisting with conference coordination for health-related organizations, and working with students to get them interested in the health professions — all right here in North Central Florida!
My favorite UF memory: Six years at UF leaves many memories, and it’s impossible to pick a favorite (especially because I’m a huge dork and college life wasn’t all that exciting for me), but I’d have to say the best parts were the friendships (even the ones that didn’t last), the jobs (the bills were “barely” paid, but I learned discipline, sacrifice, and time management), and the fact that I can go anywhere and immediately bond with someone wearing orange and blue with the simple words, “Go Gators!”
Best Lesson Learned at UF: An extra hour of sleep is more beneficial than an extra hour of studying before an exam.
People would be surprised to know: I’ve never seen snow or been out of the country. Oh, and my name is spelled wrong on my birth certificate.
Family: I wouldn't be where I am now without the support from my mom Linda, her boyfriend Phil, and my brother Uriah. I haven't started my own family, but I'm enjoying living with my best friend and fellow MPH'er, Julie Ackerman.
In the future I hope to: Publish the Journal of Insignificant Findings with Julie :), meet Bob Seger, and live on a farm (well, more like a petting zoo).
Hobbies: camping, kayaking, boating, reading, puzzles,
crafts
Favorite quote: “Be something you love and understand.”
