Sara Sparrow, Ph.D.

Dr. Sara Sparrow is a Professor Emerita and Senior Research Scientist at Yale University’s Child Study Center and the Center for the Psychology of Abilities, Competencies and Expertise.
From 1975 to 2002, Dr. Sparrow was the chief of psychology at Yale Child Study Center, where she continues to serve on the faculty. She also holds a professorship in the Department of Psychology at the University of Windsor in Canada.
Dr. Sparrow is the author of more than 100 articles and book chapters in the fields of psychological assessment and developmental disabilities, and is the senior author of the Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales, one of the most widely used psychological instruments available.
In addition, Dr. Sparrow has served on the Committee on Disability Determination for Mental Retardation, a committee of the National Academy of Sciences. She is the co-founder and co-editor of the Journal of Child Neuropsychology and received the Career Scientist Award from the American Academy of Mental Retardation. She and her husband, Professor Domenic Cicchetti, share the first Scientific Achievement Award from the Connecticut Psychological Association. Dr. Sparrow is a Fellow in the Divisions of Clinical Psychology, and Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities of the American Psychological Association.
