Mase Leadership Award Lecture CANCELLED

The College of Public Health and Health Professions will host the Darrel J. Mase Leadership Award lecture, featuring award recipient Max Cleland, former U.S. Senator of Georgia, on Monday, Jan. 29 at 11:45 a.m. in the HPNP Auditorium. Reception immediately following in the first floor reception area.
Max Cleland has a long and distinguished career in public service. Prior to his election to the U.S. Senate in 1995, Cleland served as Georgia’s Secretary of State and was a member of the Georgia State Senate. Under President Jimmy Carter, Cleland became the youngest head of the U.S. Veterans Administration. Cleland volunteered for duty in Vietnam and was promoted to the rank of Captain in 1968. He was seriously wounded in a grenade explosion that year, costing him both legs and his right arm. He was awarded the Bronze Star and a Silver Star for gallantry in action.
The Mase Leadership Award was established in 1985 to honor the college’s founding dean, Darrel J. Mase, Ph.D. The award is given to individuals who have made substantial contributions to health care through their professional accomplishments, leadership and personal experience.
