Data Network Services

100 Mbit Ports

The HPNP Building data network provides 100 megabit (mbit) service to all devices that can use it. Devices not capable of 100mbit will receive 10 mbit service.

The HPNP network also provides power over the network cable for devices capable of using it. The most prominent example of such devices are the phones at HPNP.

Activated Ports

In planning for the move into HPNP, we did not activate all possible ports in the building. The exact list of port activation requests can be seen at HPNP Port requests.

Wireless Networking

The HPNP Building is equipped with wireless networking using the 802.11b standard (aka WiFi). This service covers all interior spaces and will eventually this will cover all of the courtyard.

The HPNP building's wireless network is configured like that at the Communicore and other HSC spaces. Devices configured to work in those spaces will also work at HPNP. Owners of devices not yet configured for the HSC wireless network should contact their information technology staff or HealthNet (see HealthNet Wireless Project) to request assistance in configuring their wireless device.

Phones

The phones in the HPNP building are a special kind of phone called IP phones. They use the same data network as your PC. An IP phone uses the data port typically used by your PC, but the phone then provides another data port on its base for your PC to plug into.

For more information about phones at HPNP, see HPNP Phones.
